Lhasa Apso (Tibet (Great Britain))
History and Origin
The Lhasa Apso is a miniature toy dog. They originated from Tibet and were used as watchdogs in the ancient monasteries. They were believed to bring a good luck due to their resemblance to lions wich were considered sacred animals. The breed appeared in Europe only in the 19 centure and gained in popularity rapidly. The Lhasa Apso was recognized by the Kennel Club of England as breed in 1902 (but was named Lhasa terrier primarily).
Temperament and Personality
The Lhasa Apso is intellegent, hardy and devoted dog. They are excellent watchdogs and companions, good for apartment living. These dogs have a very fast learning rate but are rather independent and stubborn and have a low obedience level. The Lhasa Apso does not demand much exercise and has very few health problems.
Size and Appearance
The Lhasa Apso is short, muscular and elegant looking dog. Their coat is long, heavy and straight. The most popular colors are gold, cream, and honey. Height: from 9.5 inches to 11 inches. Weight: from 11 pounds to 15 pounds.
Care
The Lhasa Apso's coat is to be brushed everyday. Life span is high, generally 15 to 18 years.
