Labrador Retriever (Great Britain)
History and Origin
The Labrador Retriever descends from the St. John's Retriever, a smaller version of the Newfoundland. These dogs were used to haul fisherman's nets to shore. They were brought to England on fishing boats in 1830 where they gained popularity as gun dogs.
Temperament and Personality
The Labrador is gentle, intelligent and adaptable. It is good with children and other pets. The Labrador makes an excellent pet. These dogs are very energetic and need a lot of exercise.
The Labrador Retriever is a very versatile dog. It is good at hunting, tracking, retrieving, watchdogging. These dogs are also used for narcotics detection, search and rescue and as rescue dogs.
Size and Appearance
The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built middle-sized muscular dog with a wide skull, a short, dense water-resistant coat and otter tail. Height is 21-24 inches. Weight is Dogs 60-75 pounds. The dogs are bigger than bitches. The life span is about 10-12 years.
Care
Labradors' coat doesn't need a lot of maintenance but it should be regularly brushed.
