Boston Terrier (U.S.A.)
History and Origin
The Boston terrier is one of native american breeds. It was developed in Boston, USA by crossing english bulldogs and terriers. The breed development was started by Robert C. Hooper in 1865. His dog Judge became the ancestor of all Boston Terriers. The first breed standard was adopted by American Kennel Club in 1891. These dogs were originally called American Bull Terriers, but in 1893 the name was changed to Boston Terrier.
Temperament and Personality
Due to its very elegant look and good manners the Boston terrier is known as "the American gentleman among dogs." These dogs are energetic, friendly and bright. They make an excellent companion.
Size and Appearance
Boston terriers are divided in three classes by weight: under 15 pounds; 15 pounds and under 20 pounds; 20 pounds and not to exceed 25 pounds. The height is 15-17 inches. The body is compact; head is square with large round eyes. The muzzle is short and square, nose is black. The coat is short and smooth. The colours are brindle, seal, or black with white marking. White muzzle band, white blaze between the eyes, white forechest are required features of the breed.
Care
The coat needs daily brushing, the eyes need cleaning. This breed is an average shedder. Boston terriers need moderate exercise. This breed is sensitive to draught. The Life span is about 15 years.
